UK HTC Desire HD, Incredible S get Sense 3.0, Android 2.3.5

HTC has announced that owners of its Android-powere Desire HD and Incredible S smartphones in the UK are about to get a new firmware upgrade for their phones. Both Google's Android 2.3.5 operating system and HTC's own Sense 3.0 user interface are rolling out to users in the UK now, according to the handset manufacturer.

Google adds detailed movie searches for Android, iOS browsers

Google has just rolled out a new movie search feature for its Google.com website when viewed on Android and Apple iOS powered devices. The new search will offer a scrollable ribbon of movies to choose from, and can even show which movies are available at a particular movie theater.

Samsung Galaxy Note for AT&T passes the FCC

AT&T users that are looking to get a new Android device should take note, as the FCC is showing that Samsung's Galaxy Note may be headed to the nation's #2 carrier. The smartphone tablet hybrid features a massive 5.3-inch Super AMOLED HD display, with 1280 x 800 pixels of resolution for viewing pictures and video. The device also offers Google's Android Gingerbread OS, a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, and a main 8 megapixel camera that is backed up by a 2 megapixel user-facing camera for video chats. The Galaxy Note on the FCC site shows support for AT&T's network bands for voice and data connectivity, but FCC approval does not always mean that a device is destined to be sold in the U.S. We sure hope it is, though.

Toshiba to offer 10-inch Excite Android tablet in January

Toshiba is readying its latest Android tablet, the Excite, for January, according to the electronics maker's Canadian webpage. The Excite is the successor to the Thrive tablet and will offer 10 inches of touchscreen real estate to its users. The tablet will also come loaded with Google's Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system which is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor from Texas Instruments. Other features include a 5 megapixel camera for video and photo taking as well as a 2 megapixel user facing camera for video chats. The Excite offers both built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, a micro-SD memory card slot, and a micro HDMI port. The Toshiba Excite will be offered in two variants: 16GB or 32GB. No word yet on pricing and availability.

AT&T's plan backfires; DoJ requests postponement, threatens to drop T-Mobile deal lawsuit

It appears that AT&T's plan to postpone its battle with the FCC to focus on a Department of Justice suit has backfired, since the U.S. Department of Justice has requested that its suit to block AT&T's planned takeover of T-Mobile USA be postponed. The case had previously been granted expedited status at the request of AT&T.

Apple expected to sell 30 million iPhone, 12 million iPads this quarter

A UBS analyst named Maynard Um has said that he estimates that Apple will sell a massive 30 million iPhones in Q4 of 2011. This is up from Um's earlier 28 million estimate. Um also estimates that Apple will ship an impressive 12 million iPad tablets in Q4, as well.

Nokia Lumia 710 to launch on T-Mobile USA, claims WSJ source

According to a source reporting to The Wall Street Journal, the device that Nokia and T-Mobile USA are planning to launch in New York on December 14 is the Lumia 710, a Windows Phone 7.5 powered smartphone.

Motorola granted injunction against Apple in Germany

A German court has granted an injunction to Motorola that blocks Apple from selling its iPhone smartphone and 3G-capable versions of its iPad tablet in the country. Motorola had applied for the injunction on the grounds that Apple's devices with cellular transmitters in them used Motorola's patents without license.

The two new Motorola DROID XYBOARD tablets for Verizon Wireless that were announced earlier this week are now available for purchase from the carrier. The DROID XYBOARD 10.1 features a 10.1-inch display and comes with a stylus for pen interaction. It is available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB configurations and costs $529.99, $629.99, and $729.99 with a new two-year data contract, respectively. The DROID XYBOARD 8.2 has a slightly-smaller 8.2-inch display, and is available in 16GB and 32GB versions for $429.99 and $529.99 with a new contract.
