XYBoard Tablet Accessories Already Showing up in Verizon Stores

Posted: 03 Dec 2011 03:57 PM PST

With their recent FCC approval, all signs are starting to point to the rumored December 12th launch of the new Motorola XYBoard tablets. Now it appears that accessories have already started to show up in Verizon retail stores and the dudes over at Droid Life got a hold of some pictures to confirm it. I guess this doesn’t necessarily mean launch is imminent because if you’ll remember, Big Red has been sitting on those damn Galaxy Nexus accessories for like over three weeks now. Predicting these Verizon launches has become a dangerous game and is something we tend to avoid until some real proof comes along.

Anyway, in case you missed out on some basic XYBoard info, the new Moto tablets will come in two sizes, 10″ and 8.2″ (media edition). Both tablets will be available in different storage sizes with the 10″ offered in the usual 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models with the rumored price of $529, $629, and $729 respectively, on contract. The 8.2″ media edition XYBoard is thought to only come available in 16GB and 32GB versions with leaked price tags of $429 and $529 respectively, also on contract.

Although a bit pricey and unfortunate that Wi-Fi only models aren’t going to be available, these new tablets should be pretty sweet. As soon as we here more solid information regarding their launch we will definitely keep you updated. Stay tuned…

DROID RAZRMAX might be the next flagship from Motorola and Verizon Wireless

Posted: 03 Dec 2011 12:21 PM PST

Photos online are a great way to find out about upcoming phones. For instance, We found out that the Motorola Dinara (xt928) was capable of taking 13MP photos. Another one has popped up which just might be the US version of the Motorola MT917, which features a 4.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) Super AMOLED display. In the above image you will notice the EXIF data for a photo, which has DROID RAZRMAX as the model. This will obviously be the follow up to the DROID RAZR. One has to assume that the display will be a big difference, but the other speculation is that it will actually be a little thicker which is a result of a bigger battery for better battery life. We all know that the one negative for 4G LTE phones is the battery life, and Motorola has made strides with the DROID RAZR, but is looking for further improvement.

Another piece of evidence, if you will, is the person who posted the above image recalls that a Verizon employee told him that a thicker version of the DROID RAZR would be coming out in the future. If a Verizon employee told me that, I wouldn’t have thought much of it, but now seeing this EXIF data only verifies that the DROID RAZRMAX is indeed in existence.

It all makes sense now because Motorola did market the RAZRMAXX (without DROID) as a flip phone on Verizon in 2006, about 2 years after the original RAZR was introduced. Of course it had the extra “X” in it, so we will have to wait and see how this ends up when its actually released.

I fully expect this one to be shown at CES next month, but it hopefully won’t be a long drawn out ordeal like the DROID Bionic. It looks like all manufacturers will have phones with 720p displays by late this year or early next year. This is exciting times. I am wondering if this time next year, we will be looking at 1080p displays?

DROID XYBoard Tablets Gain FCC Approval

Posted: 03 Dec 2011 09:21 AM PST

According to the latest rumor Verizon and Motorola plan on releasing the new XYBoard tablets on December 12th and the recent clearing through the FCC may prove that there is something to be said about the leaked release date. In the past, once devices receive FCC approval it is usually a short amount of time before it hits the marketplace and the timing of the XYBoard’s visit seems about right. Now this is Verizon we are talking about though, a carrier who has pretty much tarnished their reputation by botching device releases and delaying them for unacceptable amounts of time, so who knows what will happen.

Either way, the two XYBoard tablets, 10″ and Media Edition, recieved FCC approval yesterday for Verizon’s CDMA/EvDO 800/1900 bands, LTE band 13, Bluetooth and dual-band wireless-N. Apparently they also house GSM / EDGE / WCDMA functionality but are SIM-locked and disabled by firmware.

Verizon has yet to announce official pricing but based on leaked MAP pricing, they can range from $429.99-$729.99 depending on size and storage capacity. Jump past the break for a couple more FCC documents.

Paper Zombie be-Heads its Way to the Android Market

Posted: 03 Dec 2011 07:49 AM PST

Yes, Halloween is already over but that doesn’t mean that zombie fun needs to end with it. The popular iOS game, Paper Zombie, has been just been added to the Android Market and it’s a perfect way to get your quick zombie fix.

Similar to Fruit Ninja, the goal is to swipe your screen to slash-up the zombie apocalypse before they infect all the humans. You start out with a box knife but get to graduate to some more deadly (and comical) methods of decapitation. The game is free right now and you can find it through the market link below. Check out the trailer we have provided to help make your decision, I am sure once you see the video you wont be able to resist getting in on the fun!

Amazon Cancels Recent Transformer Prime Pre-Orders Due to “Lack of Availability”

Posted: 02 Dec 2011 06:37 PM PST

Damn. I hope you weren’t one of the people who pre-ordered a Transformer Prime from Amazon this past week! If you were, then you probably already know why I am concerned. Based on emails that were sent out to those who recently placed pre-orders, it looks like Amazon over promised stock and had to cancel a bunch, citing a "lack of availability from suppliers." That sucks! It’s hard to say if ASUS wants to limit the amount of tablets that goes through Amazon, or if they simply can’t/haven’t produced enough product to go around. Last time this happened with the OG Transformer because ASUS couldn’t crank them out fast enough. You would think that they would have learned their lesson, especially knowing they were going to release the first quad-core tablet to the market.

If you placed a pre-order already and haven’t received the above email then it’s safe to assume your OK. If the Transformer Prime was something you were hoping to pick up as a Christmas gift then you may want to check out Best Buy or CompUSA’s pre-order situation or maybe even Game Stop’s. Good luck and feel free to let out your frustrations in the comments below.
