Samsung Focus S, Focus Flash hit AT&T on November 6

The Focus S and Focus Flash, the two new Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones from Samsung, will be hitting AT&T's network on November 6, according to the carrier's official Facebook page. The Focus S will cost $199.99 on-contract, while the Focus Flash will go for a much lower $49.99 with a new two-year agreement. The Focus S features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and a 1.4GHz processor, while the Focus Flash makes do with a 3.7-inch screen and a 1GHz chip.

RIM releases BlackBerry Messenger 6.0.1 with connected app improvements

RIM has updated its BlackBerry Messenger app for BlackBerry smartphones to version 6.0.1. The update offers an easier way to find BBM-connected apps, as users can now search for them directly from the BBM app. Users can also share BBM app content with their BBM contacts, as well as invite BBM 5.0 users to use connected apps. The BlackBerry Messenger update is free and available in the BlackBerry App World now.

HP sources speculate that webOS is certain to be killed off

According to a report by the Guardian, HP plans to kill off its flailing webOS division, which it purchased from Palm for $1.2 billion just last year. Apparently, HP is not interested in selling the webOS platform, and it will move webOS staff to other divisions or lay them off.

Microsoft delivers Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update to 100 percent of eligible phones

Microsoft has announced that with the rollout of the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango upgrade to the LG Optimus 7 smartphone for Telefonica in Spain and the Samsung Omnia 7 on Deutsche Telekom, it has now delivered the upgrade to 100 percent of eligible devices. Microsoft started rolling out the upgrade exactly one month ago, on September 27. Windows Phone 7.5 brings a number of new features to the platform, including multitasking, Live Tiles for third-party apps, and front-facing camera support.

RIM helps Indian government access BlackBerry messages, email

RIM has begun cooperating with the Indian government to give investigators access to users' email and messages that pass through RIM's servers. The company has set up a special facility in Mumbai to help the government, but it still is not providing access to enterprise email and messages.

It's no surprise that RIM is likely sitting on a pile of unsold BlackBerry PlayBook tablets, so the company's new offer to business customers makes a bit of sense. For a limited time, business customers can buy two BlackBerry PlayBooks and get a third tablet free. Additionally, buyers can choose between three different accessories to go along with each tablet that they will receive free of charge. T-Mobile UK to carry Nokia Lumia 800 in November

T-Mobile UK has announced that it will be offering the new Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone 7.5 smartphone starting next month. The Lumia 800 will be available for free with a new two-year contract and a 30 GBP per month plan. The Lumia 800 sports a 3.7-inch, ClearBlack AMOLED display and is powered by a 1.4GHz processor. It runs Windows Phone 7.5 and includes Nokia's own Drive navigation app and the Nokia Music app.

Sad news for owners of the LG Optimus 2X smartphone, as the company has stated that it will not update the dual-core device to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. It is not clear why LG is not planning to upgrade the device, as it would appear to have enough high-end specifications to handle the new Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

U.S. judge blocks cellphone warning placards in San Francisco

A U.S. judge has ruled that the placards required by a San Francisco ordinance to warn consumers of possible health threats from cellphone use violate the first amendment. The judge blocked the rules that required cellphone stores to put warning stickers on phone displays and large placards in the windows of their retail locations.

Hands-on with Nokia's Asha line, the phones for "the next billion"

Alongside the announcement of the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, Nokia's new line of Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones, the Finnish phone company announced a new suite of feature phones that are designed for emerging markets. Named the Asha line, the phones have specific features such as QWERTY keyboards, touchscreens, or dual-SIM capabilities. We got some hands-on time with the Asha phones (the Asha 200, 201, 300, and 303) during the Nokia World conference.
