Read the newspaper, take a picture, and share a clean digital copy of any article with Kooaba Paperboy

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 01:24 PM PDT

Every now and then a really interesting and useful app comes along. Kooaba Paperboy happens to be one of them. With Kooaba Paperboy, you take a picture of any article you are reading in a newspaper or magazine, and it will match the photo to the images in Kooaba’s extensive library of printed media or from NewspaperDirect’s inventory of over 2,000 digital newspaper replicas. From there, you will be able to share it via Twitter, Facebook, email, or archive it for later.

Paperboy has been around for a while, but it only supported 85 titles in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The big news is that they just started the second global rollout which includes hundreds of new titles from the US, UK, and Canada. Some of the bigger newspapers include USA Today, The New York Post, The LA Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Daily Telegraph, Toronto Star, The Vancouver Sun, and many more. Later in the year, they will add Russian, Asian, and other European papers, as well as papers in Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. The complete list can be seen here. I was shocked at how extensive it was as a few of the local papers in my area are on the list as well.

Checkout the video demo, download links,  and full press release after the break.

Motorola Xoom 2 Shows up in European Ad, Launching Before Christmas

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 11:39 AM PDT

We are nearing the end of all the speculation surrounding the Motorola XOOM 2 with the imminent launch just around the corner. The recent surfacing of a print ad from European online retailer, Carphone Warehouse, says you’ll even be able to put the tablet on your Christmas wish-list.

It was over a month ago that we started hearing rumors and specs about Moto’s new tablet and at one point was even pictured next to its smaller sibling, the Motorola Xoom media edition (aka Flemming). Since then it has cleared the FCC and recent leaks show the devices are now nearing launch as they showed up on Verizon’s inventory system. The lastest bit of info coming from European online retailer, Carphone Warehouse, whose print ad outs the device to be landing overseas before Christmas, leads us to believe the wait is almost over.

The ad has the Motorola Xoom 2 pegged at €399.90, about $545, for the Wi-Fi only version with 16GB of on-board storage. Other features include Android 3.2, an 8.2″ touchscreen and Cellphone Warehouse claims it to be “everything a tablet should be.” Only a short amount of time now until you get to be the judge. Now if Big Red would finally officially announce the damn thing!

Another HTC Rezound Video Surfaces, Shows Side By Side Comparison With The Thunderbolt

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 10:45 AM PDT

Looks like Johnboy is at it again and just in case you missed the quick hands-on video yesterday, he’s brought you some more eye candy today.  The device is shown in the video being compared to the original LTE device, the HTC Thunderbolt.  And while though there’s nothing new on the plate here, you get a pretty decent idea of the Rezound as it sits along side the Thunderbolt.  Check out the video and take note of the length, screen res and thickness of the device as well as the small sample of the Beats Audio technology on board.  We’ll let you be the judge here as to whether or not the device has enough to compete with recent and emerging devices and technologies.  Do you think the Beats Audio integration is enough to get you to not purchase a Droid Razr or a Galaxy Nexus?  Expect the device to launch on or around Nov 3rd.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Visits FCC with AT&T 4G LTE Bands

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 08:44 AM PDT

We still need to get confirmation from Samsung and AT&T but it looks like the wireless provider will add a new Android powered tablet to their 4G LTE device roster.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 made another visit to the FCC last week, this time packing AT&T radios inside. The FCC filing lists the Galaxy Tab 10.1 as model number SGH-I957 and shows the device supports the AT&T 4G LTE network – complete with the AT&T 4G logo on the back. We’re not sure if this new Galaxy Tab will have the same features/specs as the Wi-Fi version which has the Tegra 2 processor 1GB of RAM, 16 or 32 GB internal space and Android 3.1.

The big question is pricing and availability. We are not sure of either right now but the addition of this 4G tablet alongside their two new 4G LTE phones, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and HTC Vivid seems like a great way to launch a new network.

Stream Playlists Of Videos, Pictures And Music To DLNA Devices With Eye-C Taglists

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 06:54 AM PDT

Eye-C Taglists has made its way to the Android platform and offers users an endless stream of music, photos and TV in a personalized channel customized just for you.

Download Eye-C Taglists for free, and your timeline becomes your own personal TV channel, music player, or photo gallery. At any point, just push play, and the feed comes to life – on your phone, TV, Apple TV (even from an Android phone), PC and more. Add a hashtag (#tag) to any video, song or picture to build a taglist – a playlist that combines items from multiple sources – YouTube, Picasa, Facebook, or even your personal music library (see below for tech specs). More sources are coming every month, so play tags – it’s easy and free.

Here's How It Works:

Step 1 – Find videos, pictures and music you think are interesting in YouTube, Facebook, Picasa, and now SoundCloud.
Step 2 – Play your picks on your mobile phone, connected TV, Apple TV or other Airplay and DLNA devices.
Step 3 – Play content individually or as taglists. These lists can come from your friends, or they can come from users tagging a video with a certain term, like #startaparty.
Step 4 – Easily add another video, song, or picture to that list, by tagging it #startaparty – and watch your playlist change and grow as people interact with it.

So if you’ve been looking for an app to supply an endless stream of content from multiple users and platforms like YouTube, Picasa, Facebook and your own personal music playstist, Eye-C Taglists can deliver.  The application will work on most Android devices but can also play on hansets supporting DLNA (wireless push content).  You can download the application from our popular apps database where you’ll also find a QR Code available or you can download it from the Android Market.  The application is free and will work on devices manufactured by “Pioneer, Denon, Yamaha, Sony and more, connected TVs from Samsung, LG, and Panasonic, set top boxes including WD (Western Digital) and Popcorn Hour, as well as Xbox 360 (with Windows Media Player)” You can check out the full press release after the break.   Read More…

It’s official: DROID RAZR to launch November 10 on Verizon Wireless

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 06:13 AM PDT

We already knew this, but it’s always nice to get the final and official word. You can already pre-order your DROID RAZR now, but we now know for sure that it will launch on November 10 for $299.99 (with a 2-year contract) or a very high full retail price of $649. Checkout our hands on video here.

I am totally torn between this and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. On one hand you have the RAZR that is so sexy and only 7.1mm thick and on the other you have Ice Cream Sandwich already rocking on the Galaxy Nexus. Motorola is promising Ice Cream Sandwich by early 2012, but if I didn’t care for ICS so much, I would be all over the RAZR. Then there is the Rezound for all your Sense fans. What are you guys thinking?
