Logitech Admits Mistake On Revue – Google TV Experiment

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 03:02 PM PST

We finally have comments on the Logitech Revue. It had gone from being one of the most anticipated devices to one of the biggest duds in recent memory. Not even a huge price reduction generated consumer interest. CEO Guerrino De Luca admits the launch “a mistake of implementation of a gigantic nature”. De Luca goes on to add Logitech has "brought closure to the Logitech Revue saga”, adding there are "no plans to introduce another box to replace Revue”. It’s a sad conclusion to a product that once had immense potential. Here’s hoping another manufacturer will be able to learn from Logitech’s flop and come up with a new variation of Google TV.

Native Firefox On Its Way To Android

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 12:31 PM PST

Firefox for Android is all set for some major improvements. The engineering team has been hard at work developing a port of Firefox to a Native Java Application. Among the improvements are “startup performance, responsiveness and a much more fuller, native experience”. One thing you’ll immediately notice is the UI of the browser. It looks modern and sleek. Every action from scrolling through pages to opening up new links is smooth and fluid. Like any beta, it’s got it’s fair share of bugs and small issues, but they’ll be worked out sooner than later.

The Native Java App port of Firefox (known as Nightly) is available as a beta today as a ‘Testday’. If your phone has sideloading enabled, download it, test it out, and give your feedback to the guys and gals hard at work to make our internet experience just a little bit better. Expect Native Firefox to be released sometime in Q1 2012.

DROID RAZR unboxing and initial hands on review [Video]

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 11:40 AM PST

The DROID RAZR is probably the sexiest phone I have ever held. From the kevlar back coating to the thin form factor, its such a treat to hold. A few weeks ago when Motorola announced the RAZR, my jaw dropped when Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha said it was going to be 7.1mm. Talk about exceeding expectations. In the picture below (after the break) you can see the DROID RAZR as compared to the DROID X (left) and DROID Bionic (middle).

Moms are three times more likely to own an Android smartphone as opposed to an iPhone, but would they give them up? [Infographic]

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 10:16 AM PST

I’m not too big on infographics, but this one from Life360 about Moms and smartphones seemed interesting.

They found that Mom’s were three times more likely to own an Android smartphone as opposed to an iPhone. What was interesting was the results on if they were willing to give up their smartphone for ONE day. According to the survey, 32.4% of Moms would give up their smartphone for a day at the spa, 15.5% for new clothes, a new bag, or new shoes, and 11.8% for dinner at their favorite restaurant. Of course there are those that would never give it up even if they got paid, and that was the case for 28.7% of the Moms.

Verizon offering Double Data Deal to free up bandwidth for the iPhone

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 08:57 AM PST

Earlier in the week we told you about Verizon’s Double Data deal. We wondered why they would offer this since they had just started implementing tiered data plans. It seems as though the culprit is the iPhone, according to Verizon CFO Fran Shammo.

With more and more iPhone users clogging the 3G network, Verizon either needs to invest in expanding it or get non iPhone users switched to 4G LTE. They have chosen the latter since it will free up the bandwidth on 3G and they really don’t want to put more money into 3G. By offering the Double Data Deal for 4G LTE customers, they are hoping it will be enough incentive to get a lot of customers to finally buy that LTE phone.

Quick Look at Amazon’s App of the Day: Let’s Bowl

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 08:34 AM PST

Today, Amazon’s free app of the day is, Lets Bowl, a decent game with great graphics and easy gameplay. I am not going to spend much time going over it as this is one of the bowling games that we have reviewed in the past. To get a comparison against other similar games, check out our other bowling game reviews for PBA Bowling 2 and 3D Bowling.

When playing the game I notice that there isn’t much control over placing spin on the ball and sometimes ball travel seems very unrealistic. I don’t think that this is one of those in depth physics based games but rather something you can play to kill a few minutes of spare time. Hit the source link below to get the free download but be sure that you already have the Amazon Appstore installed on your device, if not, read up on our quick tips page to learn how.

Perks To Owning A Droid Razr: Remove Tons Of Bloatware And Easily Hide The Rest

Posted: 10 Nov 2011 08:59 PM PST

If I were to ever stand in front of a panel of world Entrepreneurs and were asked what my suggestions were to make the world a better place and push humanity into a brighter future, it would certainly be to request that all carriers remove crapware bloatware from their devices.  Well, Verizon and Motorola are headed in that direction, and for now we’ll just have to say it’s a start.  Vz has made the change we’ve all been waiting for when it comes to pre-loaded apps on the device, and we hope it’s a trending change in the industry.  Vz has allowed a plethora of applications to be uninstalled on the device and for the ones that cannot, you now have the ability to “hide” them.  Hey, we’ll take the compromise.

There’s nothing worse in the world than for you to get this high end smartphone and not be able to customize it the way you want because of unnecessary bloatware.  And not everyone is tech savvy enough to root and ROM their devices if that’s what you were thinking.  Applications like Guided Tours, Blockbuster, GoToMeeting, Let’s Golf and Madden can all be hidden if these aren’t your forte.  In previous models, you either had to toss these apps in a folder somewhere so they’re out of the way or download a new launcher all together, since Blur was kind of blah and didn’t allow you to do that.  In any event, it’s a welcomed addition to the device.  If you haven’t already, check out our initial hands-on with the Droid Razr and stay tuned for our full review and comparison of the device.   Read More…

Dailymotion video streaming app arrives in the Android Market

Posted: 10 Nov 2011 08:34 PM PST

I am sure by now you have heard of the Youtube alternative website called, Dailymotion. Well, I bet you didn’t know that they have turned all that great video watching experience into an Android app, did you?

The new app, Dailymotion, allows users to create an account and customize the dashboard to create a mashup of all their favorite videos and channels in one easy to locate spot. The app also plays back selected videos like a playlist would in iTunes and has continuous play. That means that once a selected video finishes playing, another related video or the next video on the channel or playlist will automatically begin, creating somewhat of an uninterrupted streaming video service.

The Daiymotion app is available now as a free download in the Android Market. Hit up one of the links below to check it out and jump past the break for a full press release. If you give it a spin, let us know in the comments how the experience stacks up against Youtube.
