Sony Ericsson Arc HD Details – Has 720p Screen and 1080p Video Recording

Posted: 04 Nov 2011 11:56 AM PDT

Remember when we told you about that one rumor? You know, the flagship Sony Ericsson phone packing a 1.5GHz dual-core punch rumor? Well it looks like we have some more details about the device. GSMArena is reporting they received a tip on information for the device. The phone— referred to as the SE Arc HD– is said to come with a 1280 x 720 (720p) screen and support full HD video recording. If you remember from Google’s announcement for the Galaxy Nexus, you’ll remember the Galaxy Nexus runs Ice Cream Sandwich with a native 720p resolution. If you put the pieces together, you can conclude (albeit prematurely) this new SE flagship will also carry Android 4.0. In addition, the phone will come with a noteworthy feature where users will have the ability to capture full resolution shots while recording video. Yes you read that correctly, there is the option to simultaneously take full resolution photos while capturing full 1080p videos! Sounds like SE is ready to take full advantage of ICS considering the sweet treat will have optimized camera settings and hardware acceleration.

We expect to see Sony make a formal announcement of this device in the coming weeks, especially with more and more information leaking out. We’ll certainly keep our eyes and ears open for more leaks.

Barnes & Noble will be unveiling the Nook Tablet this Monday, which will cost $50 more than the Amazon Kindle Fire. Where does that leave consumers that don’t want to go higher than $199? Well Barnes & Noble will continue to market the Nook Color, and they will drop the price $50 to $199. Along with that, they are including a new software update (Nook Color v 1.4), which will add Hulu Plus for access to TV shows, movies, and documentaries. [Leak] Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet pricing and specs revealed ahead of announcement

Posted: 04 Nov 2011 08:46 AM PDT

With the Amazon Kindle Fire ready to torch the tablet scene, Barnes & Noble isn’t about to sit and watch. They are planning on revealing the Nook Tablet this Monday, but Androidcentral was able to get all the juicy details ahead of the announcement.

The look will essentially not change from the Nook Color, and it will still have a 7-inch VividView IPS (1024 x 600) display. Inside is where the changes are as it has a 1.2GHz TI OMAP dual-core processor . It will come with 16GB of internal storage, but can be expanded another 32GB with a microSD card. It’s a little thinner at 0.48 inches and the weight is down to 400 grams (Nook Color was .50 inches and 448 grams respectively). For battery life, they are expecting 8 hours with WiFi off or 4 hours of video playback.

Swype BETA Rolls Out First OTA Update

Posted: 03 Nov 2011 09:59 PM PDT

I’m sure by now you are familiar with, or have at least heard of, Swype, an alternative keyboard for mobile devices. Last month, Swype announced that they would be initiating an OTA automatic update system for their Swype BETA app, replacing the need to uninstall older versions when receiving an update. Today, the very first OTA update rolled out, version 3.26, and should reach all devices within 72 hours from launch.

Within the update, BETA users will notice a new “Context Prediction Engine”, a form of prediction unlike that of SwiftKey and is best described by Swype themselves:

"Our context prediction engine is providing improved accuracy to words that you enter by Swyping. We aren’t doing any type of 'completion' or 'next word prediction,' only improving the accuracy of the words Swype offers to match the path the user traced."

Another new feature is added support for Japanese language (kana-kanji conversion), and is only available in the pan-Asia language package. The OTA update will also bring a host of bug fixes which is always nice in any update.

If you are a user of Swype BETA and haven’t yet received the 3.26 update be patient, Swype says it can take up to 72 hours for the update to fully roll out to all devices.

Google has been a busy bee lately! Today, Google released an Android app for its daily deals site Google Offers, a Groupon competitor that aims to make it easy for Android users to discover, purchase, and redeem online coupons.

[Leak] 2 Budget Friendly Devices Heading to Sprint in Time for the Holidays

Posted: 03 Nov 2011 08:33 PM PDT

With so many amazing devices being released it seems it’s about time we even it out by adding a couple not-so-amazing devices to the roster. A recent leak from Sprint outs a couple entry level phones that will be available just in time for the holidays.

The Samsung Transform Ultra, landing at Sprint on November 13th for $79.99, will be a great phone for young people or folks who don’t desire to have a high-end device in their pocket. Sporting a 1GHz processor running Android 2.3, the Transform Ultra comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, 3MP camera and front camera for video chat.

The second Sprint phone, also landing Nov. 13th, is the Kyocera DuraCore. This direct-connect device will only cost $69.99 but we haven’t gotten any specs on it yet.

Pricing For XOOM 2, XOOM 2 Media Edition Surface

Posted: 03 Nov 2011 07:11 PM PDT

Now that we’ve gotten the official announcement for Motorola’s new XOOM tablets out of the way, the question on everyone’s mind is when and how much? Unfortunately, I have no information on the launch date but Eroudroid is reporting that they have the scoop on price already.

Online retailer, Clove, is saying the tablets will be more expensive than the original XOOM with the XOOM 2 coming in at £390 ($620) and the XOOM 2 Media Edition running £358 ($569). These prices are a bit steeper than the original tab’s £329 ($523) price tag but, given the updated specs and features this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Already Rooted!

We already know about the most anticipated Android phone of the year. Even though the first Ice Cream Sandwich masterpiece has yet to land in stores, it hasn’t stopped MoDaCo’s Paul O’Brien from tweaking the phone. The crafty developer has created a “Superboot” program which installs a specialized boot image to the Galaxy Nexus. The significance you ask? Since the program roots at start up, there’s no need to flash partitions, no need to overwrite the shipped ROM on the phone– you literally set it and forget it!

To see the specifics of this wonderful piece of programming, hit the source link below. There you will find thorough and complete instructions as well as the necessary files to complete the root. Please note the developer specifically mentions that you will need to unlock the bootloader if you’re on a retail Galaxy Nexus. Oh but don’t worry, he provides instructions on how to unlock the bootloader if necessary too. Happy rooting!
