Game Of The Year World Of Goo Officially Available For Android

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 04:57 PM PST

Android gamers have another reason to celebrate. The highly popular Wii game World of Goo is now available for Android devices. How popular is the game? It’s popular enough to garner numerous “Game of the Year” awards. What took so long for the game to be ported to Android is anyone’s guess. But hey, better late than never right?

In case you’re not familiar– the game is built on the premise of using “Goo” to create things. You have to use the “Goo” to create bridges, cannonballs and other tomfoolery in order to complete objectives. Believe me– there are lots of objectives, so the gameplay doesn’t get stale. Hit the break for some screenshots of the game as well as the Market links and QR codes for both the full and demo versions.

White AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket Coming Soon

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 04:00 PM PST

Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet by AT&T, a white version of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket should be landing soon at an AT&T retailer near you.

The recent addition to Samsung’s product page outs the white variant as a clearly marked AT&T device. The white GSII Skyrocket will presumably have the same specs as the black version; a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, LTE connectivity and much, much more that can be found in our initial hands on review.

If this looks like something you might be interested in, than I would hold out from buying another device as I imagine we will see an official announcement from AT&T rather soon. Besides, it’s only a wintery wonderland for a short while and what better time to announce a snowy white phone?

Google Catalog App Now Available for Android Tablets

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 03:24 PM PST

Just in time for Christmas shopping, Google announces the newest addition to its slew of useful apps, Google Catalogs. Now available for Android tablets, I repeat tablets (not smartphones), Google Catalogs bring the stores to your lap by providing beautiful and interactive catalogs from some of the biggest stores you love.

Google has managed to combine over 400 different catalogs from some of the more popular stores and combined them into one searchable app. You can browse through each individual catalog, or if you have a particular item in mind, you can execute a search across every available retailer. The pages are often interactive, allowing you to hover over an item form more details or sometimes clicking the item will show available options. Once you find an item you are interested in, you can even make an online purchase without ever leaving the app, not to mention your house. Some people compare it to the experience of the Google Shopper app but this new app is more laid out like a real paper catalogue.

The Google Catalogues app offers many different categories, from “men, women, and children; beauty; jewelry; home goods; gifts; and more to come!” Navigating the app is a cinch and you can even share an item with friends of family via email letting them know just exactly you want for Christmas. I have used this app before on my buddies iOS tablet and I must say it was pretty impressive. If you own an Android tablet and want to make shopping a bit easier this year I recommend checking out Google’s latest app addition. I have a feeling this will eventually change how people use the Internet for shopping and more and more retailers will sign up as its popularity grows. Korean Galaxy Note Gets LTE, Heading to the US?

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 02:07 PM PST

If you thought the Samsung Galaxy Note was something special, well, than the addition of LTE compatibility should make it even that much more intriguing. In case you hadn’t heard, Samsung just announced the LTE version of the Galaxy Note and is expected to land in South Korea sometime soon, with the possibility of a US appearance not completely out of the question.

With its 5.3-inch Super AMOLED screen, the Note has been a well received device in Europe and as it often happens with international devices, us stateside folks seem to be a bit jealous that we don’t have access to Sammy’s stylus toting beast. Word has been a flyin’, claiming that the US will eventually get their own rendition of the Galaxy Note but nothing we have seen yet leads us to believe a US appearance would happen anytime soon, until today.

Our buddies over at Pocketnow seemed to have acquired some interesting shots of the device that are believed to be the US bound G Note. As you can see from the photo above, the stylus location is easily visible on the bottom of the phone, and the photo below shows the size of the device clearly much larger than the phones under it – this is most definitely the Galaxy Note. The only thing that looks a bit out of place is the addition of the capacitive buttons instead of the cool tactile style one. It looks as though Sammy is taking ques from its Galaxy S II overseas transition, and applying it to the Galaxy Note. There is no telling if this is the exact design of the device as expected to launch here in the US, but lets hope in one form or another, she makes an appearance fairly soon.

Is the Galaxy Note LTE a device you would consider?

Nexus S and Galaxy S Receive Early Build Of CyanogenMod 9

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 01:27 PM PST

We didn’t think it would take too long before the creators of CyanogenMod got………creative.  Since the Android 4.0 source code release, the team has been hard at work and now we’re seeing the blood sweat and tears begin to manifest into fruition. Early alpha builds of CyanogenMod9 for the Samsung Galaxy S and the Nexus S are surfacing and certainly showing some promise.  The build is doing well so far per Koushik Dutta, CM9′s initial developer.  He also states that as the build is performing well, it’s stable enough to become a “daily driver-type ROM”.  Video playback and MMS are experiencing some issues but otherwise it’s still a good build for Nexus S.

In regards to the Galaxy S, a beta version of CM9 made its way to the folks over at XDA and you can download it now to try.  The ROM is being touted as “functional” with the exception of some minor but important issues.  For instance, the Galaxy S version has been known to completely wipe users’ SD cards.  So keep in mind you’re attempting this at your own risk.  If you’re still interested in giving it a go, you can head on over to XDA via the source thread and try your luck.  Good luck and don’t forget to report back on how well the builds are working on your respective devices.

Rumor: Verizon Customer Service Confirms Both Pre-Order and Launch Dates for Galaxy Nexus, Remain Skeptical

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 01:13 PM PST

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

What would Cyber Monday be without rumored technology releases? However, I must say that I am sick of these release date rumors for the Galaxy Nexus. My sentiment is that my Razr will see Ice Cream Sandwich before the Nexus sees its launch; at least at the rate we’re going right now. However, the folks over at Droid Life have found an article from ComputerWorld suggesting that the Galaxy Nexus will be seeing the rumored December 8th launch it’s supposed to have and confirms the December release time frame. Pre-orders should start tomorrow if this information is correct. To quote the article from ComputerWorld on the rant of someone who was fed up with the wait, Mike “micdawg” Peak:

Last week I sent an email to Verizon letting them know how disgusted I was with the way they have handled the launch of the galaxy nexus. After multiple emails back and forth…I got a text message saying “this is[name redacted] from Verizon wireless I will be calling in a couple minutes from a 678 area code number”.

When she called me I explained to her my issues. … She then said “Well Mr. Peak, I can assure you, it won’t be long.  Preorders are set to start Tuesday (November 29th). And the phone will be released Dec. 8th.” She also then said she was going to get ahold of my local store to make sure they called me as soon as they got one in, and held one for me to ensure I got one in the first Wave.  Which I thought sounded like ********. But low and behold, Saturday night around 6pm I got a call from the Verizon store 1 town over (she apparently didn’t Google the closest..) and they have my name down and are saving me a nexus, and will hold it for 2 days past release for me.”

I would remain skeptical at this point as this isn’t straight from the Verizon PR department itself. Some believe that the wait for a release is in part due to the volume rocker bug that folks in the UK are having. Like it was said before, Samsung is working on a fix. One thing is for certain; with the amount of time Verizon is taking to release this, most of the issues they are having with the phone should be corrected.

With that being said, I wouldn’t hold my breath until Verizon comes out and says one way or another. What about you guys? Tired of hearing the Galaxy Nexus release date rumors yet?

Lg Confirms 4 Optimus Phones to Receive Android 4.0 Update

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 09:06 AM PST

LG took to the social media platform this morning and announced which devices will officially receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. According to LG’s Facebook page, a few of their top tier Optimus phones will most definitely get a taste of Google’s latest treat:

  • Optimus 2X
  • Optimus Black
  • Optimus 3D
  • Optimus LTE

Now, if your LG device is not on that list there is no need to worry just yet. LG says that additional devices my also receive the update, it just depends on whether ”it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones”, and I am pretty sure LG will include the US variants for those listed above. If you have one of these Optimus phones, you can expect to see the update roll-out over the next couple of months with details of the roll-out issued sometime in December.

Speaking of December… Let’s hope that whatever mysterious phone (Nitro HD :-D ) is to be revealed during LG’s “exclusive launch” on December 1st, launches with ICS pre-loaded!

Droid 4 Accessories Include Two LapDocks, Two HD LapDocks and a Wireless Keyboard With Trackpad

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 08:44 AM PST

Droid 4 accessories

The Droid 4 isn’t even out yet and it looks like it will be receiving some accessories support. The Droid 3 as you may remember did not receive this treatment, so it’s nice to see the Droid 4 getting some accessories love. It appears that the device will get multiple LapDocks and a wireless keyboard with trackpad. This is different from a bluetooth version so it will be interesting to see how this compares.

This phone follows the same form factor as the Razr, and is dubbed the “Razr with a keyboard”. Given the specs, I would say this is pretty close to being accurate. Given it’s slated launch of December 8th, the phone is coming quick. What do you think? Will you be getting one, if so, will you be getting some of it’s fancy accessories?
