Apple Loses iPad Design Suit Against Spanish Tablet Computer Maker NT-K

Posted: 03 Nov 2011 02:40 PM PDT

Apple has just been beaten at its own game of bullying.  The story initially begins last year as the Cupertino giant accused the small Android-based computer maker Nuevas Tecnologías y Energías Catalá (nt-k) of copying the iPad and sought out a customs ban. Spanish customs ultimately seized shipments from China containing nt-k’s Android-based tablets and Apple even went on to bring criminal charges against nt-k on December 9, 2010. Not fearful of Apple’s threats and treatment, nt-k decided to fight back by defending itself in the matter. nt-k filed an antitrust complaint with the Spanish competition regulator Comisión Nacional de la Competencia (CNC). Its defense was successful to say the least. The CNC is currently reviewing and has not dismissed nt-k’s  complaint against Apple, while the judge overseeing Apple’s charges against nt-k has dismissed them completely, concluding there was no ’sufficient justification’ for a criminal case against nt-k. Moreover, nt-k is now seeking damages from Apple for monetary damages, lost profits, and ‘moral damages’.

Kudos to nt-k for standing up for not only themselves, but other Android manufacturers who are at a seemingly constant battle with Apple over patent infringements and injunctions. We’re sure most of you are giving each other hi-fives all around. Be sure to let us know what you think about this victory in our Comments section.

HTC and Verizon officially announce the Rezound, First smartphone in the U.S. to feature Beats Audio

We have been reporting on the Rezound (aka Vigor) for about 3 months now, and today in New York City, Verizon and HTC made it official. The Rezound will be the first smartphone in the U.S. with Beats Audio integration. As expected. it will have a 4.3-inch 720p display and 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

Beats Audio is onboard, which allows customers to listen to music the way the artist intended. The Beats software has auto tuning that will deliver thundering bass, soaring midrange, and crisp highs. Plus, new lightweight Beats headphones will come with the Rezound.

The rear camera will feature an 8MP sensor, f2.2 lens, and 1080p video recording, which includes slow-motion. Up front they have given the Rezound a 2MP camera.

Motorola Droid Razr In Stores on 11/11/11 @ 11:11am?

Posted: 03 Nov 2011 01:50 PM PDT

Yeah, we thought it was a little odd too, but when you’re a major carrier like Verizon Wireless you can do whatever the heck you want.  Kind of reminds me of Google actually.  Well, in an attempt to be cute with the masses, Verizon is officially launching the Droid Razr on Nov 10th.  However, as far as an in-store date goes, looks like they’re shooting for Nov 11th @ 11:11am.  Now if memory serves me correct, I’m pretty sure Vz stores typically open up somewhere around 9am-10am’ish.  Let’s hope they don’t actually make you wait until 11:11am.  In addition, there is a slight chance that you might be able to snag a device on Nov 10th, but for now, that’s just a rumor so don’t hold us to it.  However, if you’re in the area and can hit up a local Vz outlet, by all means try on the 10th.  And stay tuned as Vz has “reactivated protocols” over at @DroidLanding and a competition should be underway soon.  Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.

@DroidLanding is ready to roll with a DROID RAZR competition

Posted: 03 Nov 2011 10:50 AM PDT

It’s now a tradition for every DROID launch. With the DROID RAZR launching next Thursday, it’s time for @DroidLanding to give us another contest. Lately it has been a scavenger hunt, but the last one, for the DROID Bionic, added a little augmented reality twist. Either way, we are looking forward to it, so make sure you’re following if you aren’t already.

Transformer Prime clears the FCC and gets complete teardown

Posted: 03 Nov 2011 10:32 AM PDT

We’re getting very close to getting our hands on the first Quad-core Android tablet, the Transformer Prime, as it just cleared the FCC. Rumors have it being officially announced on November 9, so the timing couldn’t be better. This won’t be priced as sweet as the original, but the fact that it has a Quad core, is 8.9mm thick, and the promise of Ice Cream Sandwich, I can’t see how this won’t be as successful.

Along with the FCC comes a complete teardown which give us a really nice look at the NVIDIA Tegra 3. Hit the break for the pics.

Google Docs and Google Reader receive Ice Cream Sandwich makeover

Posted: 03 Nov 2011 10:12 AM PDT

A couple of days ago we saw a redesign for the web version of Google Reader with the promise of an updated Android version. It came a little quicker than we expected along with an update to Google Docs. Non of this is surprising with the release of Ice Cream Sandwich right around the corner.

The Android version of Google Reader didn’t change as much as the web version. It basically got a little ICS flare along with the new sharing options that are now limited to only Google+.

More changes hit Google Docs as it not only looks like ICS, but there are more optimizations for Honeycomb tablets, better video playback, finding information about your documents is easier, and sharing options now has auto complete.

Both updates are available now, so hit the download links after the break.

Costco Offering Special Deals For HTC Sensation 4G and Samsung Galaxy S II On T-Mobile

The one thing I love about T-Mobile is that if you’re looking for a deal, you won’t have to wait long because they’re always discounting plans and devices at what seems like a weekly basis.  And if it’s not T-Mobile themselves, it’s always some other third party partner.  Latest to make the list is Costco.  If you head in to your nearest Costco location today you’ll find that they are running a special to get you locked into an HTC Sensation 4G and/or a Samsung Galaxy S II with a plan running at $69.99/mo.  In addition, they’re throwing in a bunch of extras like T-Mobile TV, games and magazines.  Check out the pic above for more details and don’t forget to let us know what you think in the comments below.

Motorola officially announces the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition Android tablets

Posted: 03 Nov 2011 08:21 AM PDT

We’ve been hearing about the upcoming Motorola XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition for about a month now, and today Motorola made them official. The XOOM 2 (pictured above) comes with a 10.1-inch HD Gorilla Glass display, and the XOOM 2 Media Edition (pictured below) comes with an 8.2-inch HD Gorilla Glass display.

Both include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, 16GB storage, splash-guard coating, and Android 3.2 Honeycomb. I would assume Ice Cream Sandwich will make its way to both devices by early 2012.
