[Leak] US Galaxy Nexus to Carry a Larger Battery?

Posted: 14 Nov 2011 02:19 PM PST

We know that the Galaxy Nexus will see the light of European day on November 17th. We also know that the Euro version will be shipped with a 1750mAh battery which has some of us stateside 4G LTE users a bit worried. Reports have been suggesting that the U.S. version may actually ship with a larger battery and said rumor has been up for debate until now. The leaked image of an internal document shows that in fact the GN will ship with a bigger power-plant, 1000mAh bigger to be exact.

If you look at the image above, you will notice that the “in box” line shows that the device will come equipped with a 1850mAh standard battery, a welcomed change if you ask me. Further down the list you can notice a couple things we have already seen pictures of, and a couple items we haven’t. Also on the list is a $60 HDMI portrait-style desktop dock (picture after break) and a vehicle mount. It’s great to know that while not having an HDMI out on the device, you can still get media from the phone to the big screen. And I am curious to see this vehicle mount, I am hoping it will utilize the Nexus’ three pin connection located on the side of the device. We have yet to receive confirmation on why Sammy added that option.

Posted: 14 Nov 2011 02:01 PM PST

You guys remember the Verizon/Motorola Xoom 2 announcement? Well, we have another follow-up for you. Verizon is finally giving in on specific details by confirming they will be selling the Motorola Xoom and Xoom Media Edition as the DROID Xyboard 8.2 and 10.1. It’s certainly a unique name, but you can be sure that consumers probably won’t care about the name once they see how ridiculously amazing the tablets are. The tablets are confirmed for the UK and Ireland, but considering we saw that leaked roadmap recently, we can expect these 1.2GHz dual-core & Honeycomb-powered beasts to be released on or around November 30th in the U.S.

O2 UK Testing LTE Across London, Using Dongles To Start

Posted: 14 Nov 2011 01:41 PM PST

If you’re living in the UK  you’ve got one more thing to smile about as O2 is looking to test out an LTE network of their own for its customers.  The carrier is looking to begin trials across London over the next nine months at which time O2 will give consumers and business folk access to tons of services.  Initially, 25 sites will be rolled out covering a span of 40 square kilometers between now and the summer of 2012.  The company has strategically chosen key areas in the city to focus on.  Initially, no handsets will be offered, but instead customers will experience speeds on USB dongles at potentially 100 Mbps.

"Today's launch of the UK's first 4G London trial network demonstrates our commitment to delivering 4G to our customers at the earliest opportunity. The work we are doing now will lay the foundations for our commercial 4G network when it launches in the UK."

The statement above was made by Ronan Dunne, CEO of Telefónica UK (O2) as a promise to commit to LTE going forward and in a timely manner.  Here’s to hoping O2 can deploy the technology in a reasonable amount of time in keeping with the industry and that consumers can begin experiencing the blazing speeds of LTE on a mobile handset soon.

Three UK Announces Galaxy Nexus Pricing

Posted: 14 Nov 2011 01:31 PM PST

So there is this amazing new smartphone coming out really soon and it will be the first device to rock Android 4.0. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus, maybe you have heard of it? The only thing we don’t know yet is how much the device will cost through each individual retailer, some charging more than others. Three UK is one of the first to offer the device and today they finally made the pricing breakdown available to prospective buyers, and you might be surprised to see what they have to offer.

If you sign a new two year agreement with Three UK, you can get the Galaxy Nexus for free. Yes, for free. The deal requires a two year commitment at £34 ($54) per month with the option to add unlimited data for an additional £3 ($4.77) each month. The device could even show up on your doorstep as early as this Friday, November 18th. Pretty good deal if you ask me, it kinda makes me wish I lived in the Old Blighty. Sony Ericsson just finalized a deal with Ingram Micro to distribute its unlocked phones in the U.S. The Xperia Ray has already been available for a couple of months, but this agreement should bring more SE phones into the states. The deal will include several phones, including the recently released Xperia arc S.

All products will be available through Ingram Micro later this month. Ingram Micro also distributes to other e-tailers and retailers such as Amazon.com, Best Buy, Buy.com, and Newegg.com.

“By teaming with Ingram Micro, we’re expanding our channel reach through their robust distribution program and we're excited to forge new relationships with retailers and customers,” says Peter Farmer, Head of Marketing for North America, Sony Ericsson.

Google Music Store Screen Shots Surface, Will Offer Free Song Of The Day And More

Posted: 14 Nov 2011 01:14 PM PST

We could be one step closer to seeing the unveiling of Google’s long awaited music service on Nov 16th, thanks to an author at TecnoDroidVe who recently uncovered some promising screen shots (after the break).  And after catching that Google Music landing page last month, it’s only a matter of time until the masses can begin enjoying things like Song Of The Day, recommended artists and more.  Based on the screen shots, the app still appears to be a work in progress but nevertheless, promising.  The author somehow managed to view the store on his HTC Inspire 4G, which is unclear as to how at the moment.  And though the music store isn’t fully functional (can’t download songs yet) the UI looks extremely streamlined.  So, here’s to hoping that Google puts the final touches on this service and hand delivers it on the 16th when we’ll all be watching live.  The service will most likely be going head to head with Amazon’s MP3 app store and Cloud Player.  Any thoughts?   Read More…

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray (Unlocked) review

Posted: 14 Nov 2011 12:24 PM PST

For those that don’t want to get tied down to a contract for their new smartphone, there are only two choices: going to a prepaid carrier or paying full retail, which is usually $500 to $700. The unlocked Sony Xperia Ray is a great option, and it’s compatible with AT&T. No, its not a top level device as far as specs go, but for a little over $300 the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray gets the job done well. This is my full review, but you can also checkout my initial hands on video review.

Barnes & Noble Prepared for Microsoft’s Patent Strategy

Posted: 14 Nov 2011 11:10 AM PST

The Nook is on its way and Barnes & Noble looks ready to go head on against potential legal complications. Potential legal complications you ask? Well, the Nook as well as future B&N devices are based off Android technology, so Microsoft will likely see this as another ripe opportunity to make additional profits. Considering Microsoft just went after yet another company’s patents, B&N has decided to not sit tight and protect itself if necessary. The company and their legal team analyzed Microsoft’s claims of Android using its patented ideas and how it forces manufacturers and designers to get approval for device design. B&N views the patents in question that Microsoft brings up are not important and won’t hold up in court if challenged. Not only does B&N argue Microsoft is essentially trying to monopolize the mobile operating systems market by using oppressive licensing terms, but B&N may plan on going to the U.S. Department of Justice and presenting Microsoft’s practices as an anti-trust suit. Sounds like Microsoft may very well have a battle with B&N.

[Leak] LG Nitro HD says hello to the blurrycam

Posted: 14 Nov 2011 10:54 AM PST

In case you misseed it, over the weekend we told you that the LG Optimus LTE might release on AT&T as the LG Nitro HD. The above image is the LG P930 which resembles the shot we showed you in that post. They share the same curves at their top and bottom sides, and the front-facing camera is in the same spot on both devices.

As to specs. The Nirto HD will have a 4.5-inch True HD IPS display, 1.5GHz dual core processor, 8MP camera, 1830mAh battery, and LTE / HSPA+ radios. Non of this is a guarantee that it will end up on AT&T, but chances are good. Hey AT&T customers…are you excited?
