Verizon/Motorola DROID XYBOARD 8.2 Image Surfaces

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 04:08 PM PST

Here is another sign that Verizon’s new oddly named Motorola tablets are due to launch in the coming weeks (or at least will officially be announced). The above image recently surfaced showing the Xoom tablets’ new moniker, Xyboard, which is very Droid like and seems to veer far far away from its predecessors branding. It looks like Big Red is hoping that the Droid name and its relative marketing success will help to improve sales on Moto’s second tablet go-around. How crazy do you think the commercials are going to be for these bad boys?

Archos Debuts The Arnova 9 G2

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 02:23 PM PST

Remember back in July when Archos debuted the G9 series? Yeah I barely did too. I had to refresh on them myself. (Head slumped with shame)  Check this out, maybe it will help you too. Well this isn’t a G9 it’s a G2, and even thought there is no pricing with this announcement. We can assume this will priced around the level as all other mid-range tablets. The Arnova 9 G2 is 12.5mm thick and is sporting a 5 point multi-touchscreen at 9.7 inches, 1GHz processor, and is running Android 2.3.Gingerbread. Not a high-end device, but not everyone needs a high-end device. Check out the source for all the details. Keep an eye on us as well. As soon as we hear about prices we will be sure to let you know about it.

Would you be in the market for one of these? Tell us if this is a right make for you, in the comment section.

Tablified Brings Tablet Specific App Search to Your Tablet

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 12:17 PM PST

As we told you back in August, a web site by the name of Tablified was created to bring you a database of tablet specific apps. I have been using this web site daily since its creation and have found numerous tablet built apps from it. Well Tablified announced the other day that they are looking to bring the Tablet app experience to you with the release of its Android Tablified App.

I downloaded the app the other day and have to say that I am impressed. At times, the load time is slow but as the disclaimer in the App description states this is something they are working on fixing. However, this application does a great job in bringing the links and descriptions of over 1,100-tablet-apps straight to your tablet. Searching for apps is a breeze and those who are familiar with both the Android Market and Tablified.com will be satisfied.

While load times may be too slow for some, I will put up with it because aside from that, this app is what everyone with an Android Tablet needs. Follow the link below to get your taste of a good search application for Tablet apps.

TD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, GSM and Dual SIM Android Phone Spotted

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 11:52 AM PST

Here’s something I bet you have never seen. A dual SIM Android phone with TD-LTE, TD-SCDMA and GSM bands! The ZTE MT73 was spotted at the China Mobile’s booth at the Mobile Asia Congress event and isn’t expected to leave China any time soon. While only a prototype, the MT73 is still waiting for the Chinese government to issue a commercial license for TD-LTE before it will enter production.

As far as specs go, the ZTE MT73 features Android 2.3.4, a 4.1-inch 854 x 480 capacitive LCD display, an 800MHz MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5MP rear camera, a VGA front camera and a 1,100mAh battery. The guys over at Engadget are reporting that the device feels a bit cheaply built but tributes that to its prototype state. China Mobile has exclusive rights to the device and the release is pending TD-LTE approval.

Google and Motorola Merger Approved By Motorola Mobility Shareholders

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 11:19 AM PST

Back in August we reported on the possible merger of Google and Motorola. Well as of yesterday after a special shareholder’s meeting, it appears that shareholders are on board with this idea, overwhelmingly so. According to the press release 99% of shareholders approved of the merger. Sanjay Jha, Chairman and CEO of Motorola Mobility was quoted to say:

"We are pleased and gratified by the strong support we have received from our stockholders, with more than 99 percent of the voting shares voting in support of the transaction. We look forward to working with Google to realize the significant value this combination will bring to our stockholders and all the new opportunities it will provide our dedicated employees, customers, and partners."

This meeting and approval brings this merger a step closer to happening. While Google was hoping to acquire Motorola by the end of 2011, they are now expecting the 12.5 billion dollar acquisition to occur in early 2012. While this does bring this process another step further, this does not guarantee that the merger will happen. Other closing conditions could possibly cause the merger to be either delayed or cause it not to happen entirely.

As no company has publicly spoke against the merger, and some have voiced support for it, The U.S. Justice Department will still have to approve it. At this point however, it appears as if balls are rolling in Google’s favor and that this deal should go through. Hit the break below to read the full press release.

Updated Android Market with Google Music Already Rolling Out

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 09:17 AM PST

Last night during my usual late night Android Market browsing session I surprisingly experienced a sudden force close – the app suddenly went dark for a moment and took me back to my home screen. After I reopened it I was delighted to see that I had just witnessed a quick refresh of the Market app that now features the new “Music” section. I have also been hearing from a couple of friends that they too are seeing the new music store so it looks like Google has begun to push the update to many devices.

Once you receive the new Music store you will notice the added orange “Music” section amidst the usual suspects, apps, games, movies and books. Once you open the section you see the featured page which highlights various artists and recommendations, this is also where you will find the free song of the day. If you scroll the page to the left you are presented with over 20 genres and to the right you will find the top songs and albums. You can even go directly to the music app right from within the stores menu by pressing “My Music”. Pretty fancy Google!

If you are not seeing the updated market (version number hasn’t changed) you can try clearing the app’s cache and data by going to: Settings–> Applications–> Manage Applications–> Android Market–> Clear Data. Try rebooting and see if that helps any, if not I’m sure it will only be a short while until all devices get the update.

Gametel Wireless Game Controller Will Bring Gaming Controls To Android Devices

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 09:10 AM PST

Some of us do some moderate to heavy gaming on our Androids. Of course we know there are limitations with most phones, namely the lack of physical gaming buttons like those found on the Sony Xperia Play phone. A Swedish company called Fructel came up with a rather ingenious solution for Android owners to be able to play games in a much more traditional manner. They created a device called the Gametel Wireless Controller and it’s a third-party gamepad add-on to your Android device. The gang at Pocket Gamer were able to get their hands on a prototype and share some of their thoughts of how the device worked for their phone. The pad itself works in a neat way as all you do is download a specific driver to your Android phone and physically attach your phone to the gamepad. You then pair the gamepad to your phone’s Bluetooth signal and you’re good to go. Also mentioned is the ability to connect a tablet to the gamepad, though you obviously can’t clamp the tablet onto the gampad. Of course every game isn’t compatible with the gamepad, but there’s a nice list of major games out there that will work.

Hit the link below to check out the full preview of the cool add-on.

Don’t Overlook Thinking Space Or Thinking Space Pro

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 09:00 AM PST

I have come across apps claiming to be exactly what I need. Very few few ever live up to that promise. Thinking Space doesn’t claim that and I couldn’t tell you if it does or not. Why, you ask? Mainly because I only had it loaded for five minutes before I knew Thinking Space Pro was my better option. Don’t get me wrong here, the free version is awesome. However the paid version does do exactly what I need. Did I confuse you a little there? I’m sorry, we will try to avoid that kind of play on words in the future. (Maybe.)

I am in college and I have a lot of .pdf files for school on my Tab 10.1, (It is my soul in school, without it I would be doomed.) and most of them are converted power points. So when I study, I need to have all of them as well as my notes in one place. Instead I have to search for them with Astro File Manager or load them in through Office Suite Pro 5. Neither option is hard at all, but it is time consuming searching through multiple files just to find the one I need. Thinking Space Pro allows you to inbed them all into one “mind map,” now they are all right at your finger tips, for easy studying. Read on past the break for the screen shoots and links to download. Read More…

SwiftKey 2.2 Brings Improved Predictions in 35 Languages to Phones and Tablets Alike

Posted: 18 Nov 2011 08:33 AM PST

Ever since I bought my first Android phone I had one major issue with the OS; the keyboard. For some reason it never felt as responsive or fluid as I had hoped it to be. However, a quick Market search brought me to TouchType’s keyboard, SwiftKey. While I have used it and replaced it with other keyboards, I have found myself coming back to it after its most recent update. Learning from the way you type through texts, emails, blogs and so on, SwiftKey touted that it was quite accurate and could predict the next word you were going to type, making your typing more efficient.

TouchType hasn’t stopped there and has pushed out yet another major update for the keyboard. This update brings SwiftKey to 35 languages. This version promises updates to both accuracy and predictably while also bringing support for Ice Cream Sandwich. Along with UI refinements, SwiftKey promises users the ability to predict typing even when typing inaccurately. For those who enjoy different keyboard layouts SwiftKey incorporates both Dvorak and Colemak layouts.

SwiftKey is a good choice for those looking for alternatives to the native keyboard. I am currently using this update on both my Xoom and my Razr and am thoroughly impressed. For those that are wanting to give it a whirl or read the press release hit the break below.
