T-Mobile to carry Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with HSPA+ 4G on November 2

T-Mobile has finally announced pricing and availability details for the HSPA+ version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that it will carry. Starting November 2, interested buyers can plunk down $399 and sign a two-year data plan contract for the 4G-enabled tablet. T-Mobile's Galaxy Tab 10.1 features 16GB of internal storage and will be available in white. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is one of the thinnest tablets on the market at 0.34 in thick and is powered by a dual-core, 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. It runs Android 3.1 Honeycomb with Samsung's custom TouchWiz interface.

EU pushing for 4G spectrum auctions by 2013

The European Union has issued a request to its member countries asking them to auction off their 800MHz spectrum holdings for the purpose of deploying 4G networks. The EU wants countries to comply with the request by January 1, 2013.

Google+ updated for iPhone with support for Google Apps users, messaging enhancements

Google has updated its Google+ app for the iPhone and other iOS devices with new support for Google Apps users and a number of bug fixes. The app now lets users know if someone is online in the Messenger portion of the app, and it shows when another user is currently typing. Google promises that there are bug fixes and resolutions for reported crash issues as well. Google+ for the iPhone is free and can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store now.

Duke Nukem 3D now available for Android, bub

The legendary first-person shooter Duke Nukem 3D has been available for iOS devices for years now, but now Android owners can get in on the chauvinistic fun with the official port of the game. The game is the same as one would expect, and it appears to perform admirably on most Android phones. Controls are mapped to on-screen taps and swipes, which work, but certainly do not give the feedback that one gets from a proper game controller or mouse and keyboard combo. Duke Nukem 3D costs $0.99, which gives you the first "episode," after which you will need to pony up more money for Episodes 2 and 3. It can be downloaded from the Android Market now.

This marks the first time that a non-national carrier in the U.S. will be stocking Apple's iPhone. Apple has updated GarageBand, its popular music-making app for the iPad, to version 1.1 and has thrown in support for the iPhone and iPod touch, to boot. The new version gives iPhone and iPod touch users access to all of the instruments and effects that have been available on the iPad for some time now. GarageBand takes advantage of Apple's multitouch interface to let users create and edit musical compositions on the go. GarageBand costs $4.99 and is a universal app for all three devices. Those that have purchased GarageBand for the iPad already will be able to download the iPhone and iPod touch version for free.

Apple to retake smartphone lead from Samsung in Q4, claim analysts

Though Samsung refuses to release actual sales figures, it is estimated that Samsung passed Apple in smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2011, a feat that the Korean company has never been able to accomplish before. That victory may be short-lived, though, as Apple is expected to reclaim the crown of top smartphone manufacturer in Q4, thanks to the success of the iPhone 4S.

Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone hits UK shelves November 16

Nokia promised that it wouldn't be long after last week's announcement of the new Lumia 800 Windows Phone smartphone that buyers in the UK would be able to get their hands on it, and it seems like the company is keeping its word. The Lumia 800 will be available on November 16 in the UK, a mere 3 weeks after its big unveil. Nokia announced at the 800's launch that unlocked versions would cost 420 EUR, which translates to about 359 GBP, but that price might not stick once it goes on sale in the UK. Numerous UK carriers have already confirmed that they will be stocking the device, so there will certainly be deals aplenty to be had.

Nokia sets up free Wi-Fi trial in London, may become a permanent thing

It is powered by a dual-core, 1GHz TI OMAP processor and is compatible with Motorola's line of Webtop accessories. The ATRIX 2 can be purchased from AT&T now for $99.99 with a new two-year contract.

Apple has announced that the new iPhone 4S smartphone will be available in 15 more countries on November 11, with pre-orders starting on November 4. The 15 countries set to receive the iPhone 4S are Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, El Salvador, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Malta, Montenegro, New Zealand, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and South Korea. Apple has noted that pre-orders will not be available in Albania, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malta, Montenegro, and Panama.

AT&T BlackBerry 7 smartphones coming on November 6

AT&T has finally announced the availability of the long-awaited BlackBerry Bold 9900, Torch 9860, and Curve 9360 smartphones. Guaranteed to be overshadowed by the new LTE smartphones for AT&T announced yesterday, the new Bold and Torch models will hit shelves on November 6, while the Curve will be available on November 20. The Bold 9900 will cost $199.99 with a new two-year agreement, while the Torch 9860 and Curve 9360 will cost $99.99 and $29.99, respectively. AT&T says the Bold 9900 and Torch 9860 will take advantage of the carrier's fastest HSPA+ data speeds, but the Curve 9360 will make do with a slower connection.

A survey of technology directors at educational institutions has revealed that many schools are testing or deploying Apple iPad tablets in their classrooms to use as educational tools. Apple has been quick to point out that iPads are in use in schools across the country, and that every state has a pilot program in place to put the tablet in the hands of K-12 students.
