Samsung’s DiCarlo Gives The world A Taste of the Galaxy Nexus, Hopes Verizon Will Soon Make A Move

Posted: 10 Nov 2011 04:52 PM PST

Last night on Fox’s Business Network, the world was treated to a short Galaxy Nexus demo by Samsung’s V.P. of Product Planning, Nick DiCarlo. While nothing new was revealed in regards to US pricing and availability, DiCarlo gave viewers a quick peek at a few of the more talked about features to be expected when Android 4.0 finally arrives.

Although DiCarlo claimed to have been warned not to try and demonstrate the new face unlock feature on live television, he went ahead and did so anyway. Not only did the the facial recognition unlock go off without a hitch, he managed to successfully demonstrate ICS’s new real-time voice dictation feature also.

The hosts of After the Bell said they have heard nothing but good reports and were so impressed by the demo that they wanted to know when they could get one and how much it would cost. DiCarlo was reluctant to release any information and said to expect the device “just a little bit later this year” and dodged the price inquiry with “well, hopefully Verizon will let us know very soon; It’s their phone, you know”. Talk about passing the buck, Nick!

Although the US pricing hasn’t been revealed, I am willing to bet money on a $299 price tag on a 2-year contract. As for the release date? I am stumped on this one, I have heard way too many theories for me to bet on that horse. Hopfeuly damn soon though!

T-Mobile Springboard Release Date Quietly Pushed Back to Nov 16th

Posted: 10 Nov 2011 03:06 PM PST

For those of you wondering where in the world your T-Mobile Springboard tablet is, we regret to inform you that it’s been quietly delayed.  The device will now be available on November 16th with the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus instead of yesterday’s set date.  The tablet is still listed as “coming soon” on T-Mo’s site and you can check out the Springboard’s landing page (source link) for more information.  The device is going for $179.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate.  Sounds like a more than reasonable price considering the device will be in a league with Amazon’s new Kindle Fire.  I personally favor the 7-inch form factor, as it’s extremely easy to carry around and can still fit in your pocket if need be.  This device will be a welcomed and affordable addition to T-Mobile’s lineup and a great companion to the Galaxy Tab 10.1.  The holidays are going to be promising if you’re in the market for a new affordable tablet.  Choices will certainly be abundant.

Posted: 10 Nov 2011 12:28 PM PST

When Martias Duarte left Palm for Google, we knew great things were coming to Android. Marias probably had his biggest impact with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and one of the key components is the new typeface Roboto. Recently, he decided to use Google+ as a way to talk more about how its evolution.

The original Droid font worked well, but with screen resolutions now at high definition levels, a change was needed. They wanted to create something that matched their ambitious design goals for Ice Cream Sandwich. It had to be attractive, eye-catching, modern, crisp, and structured. Most importantly, it needed to make Android appealing, enchanting, and more human.

Android and iOS Eat Away At Mobile Gaming Competition

Posted: 10 Nov 2011 09:39 AM PST

Remember when we told you about how Android gaming was eating away at its competition? Well friends, it’s looking like it’s a bigger deal than we previously thought. Android and iOS are tag-teaming to beat down on the competition, by a long shot. Mobile analytics firm Flurry concluded Android and iOS will this year generate $500 million more in revenue from the sales of games than DS and PSP makers. Oh and that’s not even the most shocking statistic. Flurry highlights the “most striking trend is that iOS and Android games have tripled their market share from roughly 20% in 2009 to nearly 60% in just two years”.

The fact that Android is part of a trend eating away at mobile competition is nothing short of expected. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that people understand gaming is perhaps better on chipsets like the TI OMAP one or maybe that other upcoming NVIDIA chip people have been whispering about. Also, Android (and iOS) gamers can have their choice of gaming on their smartphones or tablets, adding for more variety. This study reveals that Sony and Nintendo will certainly have their work cut out for themselves. Take a gander at the pie chart detailing the specifics after the break. Read More…

Samsung Unveils Pink Galaxy S II and Lions Baseball Edition Galaxy Tab

Posted: 10 Nov 2011 09:21 AM PST

I an attempt to dabble in gender specific marketing, Samsung has announced a new pink version of the Galaxy S II for the ladies and a Lions baseball edition Galaxy Tab 10.1 for the fellas. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen such an attempt by a manufacturer, HTC did so with the Rhyme, and Huawei with the Tokidoki edition M835’s.

Sammy will be limiting the production of these new devices and the men will get more of a special treat rather than just a color change. The limited edition Lions tablet will come in special packaging and will include an official Lions jersey and autographed baseball. Sorry ladies, your special gift is the ability to accessorize with the color of pink, no charm dongle included.

Although the exterior of these devices may change, you can still expect the original amazing specs that millions have come to love. Either of these will make for a great new funky piece of mobile technology… if you can get a hold of one.
