ITC Finds No Violation In S3 Graphics Suit Against Apple Posted: 22 Nov 2011 11:16 AM PST In recent news, the United States International Trade Commission has dismissed the S3 Graphics lawsuit, a company which is to be acquired by the Taiwanese giant, HTC. S3 accused Apple of infringing on its patents. Initially Apple Inc was found guilty of the infringement as it utilized several “DXT” image formats on their computers. On Sept 15th AMD and subsidiaries ATI Tech ULC and ATI Int. SRL filed motions to get involved and halt the investigation based on the claim that AMD currently owns the patents at hand and doesn’t want them included in the investigation. In addition, and subsequently, Apple filed a motion to terminate the investigation and the commission decided to extend the completion date to November 21st.

Millennial Report Out: Android and iOS Shares Flat in October, HTC No. 2 Vendor Posted: 22 Nov 2011 10:13 AM PST It looks like Android is top dog in Millennial Media’s usage share charts for eleven months running while the smartphone platform landscape stayed flat. Just as it did between July and September, the mobile ad network served impressions to the following devices:
Apple inched up just a bit as October’s top vendor with 23.5% up from 23.09% in the third quarter. HTC showed the most growth and passed Samsung as the No. 2 vendor with 18.11%. While the Apple iPhone was the most popular line with 12..53% usage share, however, Samsung had six of the top-20 phones on Millenial’s network. The Samsung Freeform, which is the first feature phone to get into Millennial’s top-20 devices list since this past May, is one of these devices. Follow the break to see additional charts from Millennial’s October report.

Amazon Now Taking Pre-Orders for ASUS Transformer Prime Posted: 22 Nov 2011 09:59 AM PST If you are anything like us here at Talk Android, you have eagerly been waiting for the release of a couple new Android devices, the Galaxy Nexus and The ASUS Transformer Prime. While I have great news for the later, I unfortunately have nothing for the former. Earlier today, ASUS unveiled the Transformer Prime overview page and now Amazon is officially taking pre-orders for the tablet. Both the 32GB and the 64GB models are available in two colors, Amethyst Grey and Champagne. The 32GB model is going to cost you $492.20 while the 64GB version will run $584.22, both are slightly discounted from the suggested retail price. In case you had forgotten, the Transformer Prime is not only ASUS’s first quad-core tablet, but will most likely be the first Tegra 3, quad-core tablet to hit the market. It rocks a 10.1-inch Super IPS LCD display with 1280 x 800 resolution that’s protected with Gorilla Glass, has 1GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB internal storage, an 8MP camera that shoots 1080p Full HD video and will run on Android 3.2 Honeycomb. Not to worry because ASUS claims that an ICS update will arrive in the near future. There is still no telling when the device will be released but you can expect shipping to happen before years end. Head on over to Amazon to pre-order the sweetest Android tablet of 2011.

Ice Cream Sandwich running on the ASUS Transformer Prime [Video] Posted: 22 Nov 2011 08:54 AM PST We’re eagerly waiting for the release of the first tablet featuring the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, the ASUS Transformer Prime. It will arrive next month with Honeycomb onboard, but ASUS promised the Ice Cream Sandwich update soon thereafter. With a proven track record of giving timely updates, it’s no surprise that they already have a working demo of the Transformer Prime running ICS. This demo was taken on November 16, just two days after the ICS source code was released. It’s still a little early, but things are looking good so far. Click here to view the embedded video.

Quick Look At Today’s Free Amazon App: Cross Court Tennis Posted: 22 Nov 2011 07:22 AM PST 3D graphics, fast-paced gaming and intuitive controls? Those are the traits of today’s free Amazon app: Cross Court Tennis. It’s a tennis game that allows players to work their way up from being a scrub to eventually the world’s best. Cross Court Tennis features an Instant Play mode for immediate gaming and of course a Career mode which allows you to play various tournaments with the goal of winning a Grand Slam in the end. What stands out on this game are the controls– you swipe in order to perform a basic function such as directing your player or performing a specific attack. There’s an Auto-Run mode in the game that allows beginners to just have control of their shots– but the game will automatically control your footwork. Once ready, you can then move to the Free-Run mode and you will then have total control of the direction of your player in addition to your shots. It’s challenging at first, but definitely intuitive in the end. Establishing your drop shots, slice shots and topspin takes some getting used to, but once you practice and get the hang of it, you’ll be owning opponents in no time. If you play in the Career mode, there’s something you should note. While you can save your game’s progress, you can’t save your progress onto your device’s SD card. Just something I thought you all should be aware of in case this might be a potential deal-breaker. The game normally costs $1.99, but is available for free in the Amazon App Store today. Keep in mind it’s a hefty 21MB in girth and requires a Wi-Fi connection to download, but it does run on any Android 2.1 and above device. If you don’t have the Amazon App Store yet, be sure to check out our handy guide on how to install it onto your device. Hit the break for the App Store link and some screenshots for your viewing.
