Eco-friendly Samsung Illusion (Verizon) Android smartphone on sale now

Yesterday Verizon and Samsung announced the Illusion, which is available starting today for $79.99 with a new two year service agreement. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread Illusion offers a 3MP camera with video recording, Wi-Fi and Verizon 3G connectivity, and a zippy 1GHz Hummingbird processor. The device's display offers 3.5-inches of touchscreen space with HVGA resolution. The Illusion boasts an eco-friendly body, with post-consumer materials being used for 70 percent of the rear case and battery cover as well as 35 percent of its front. The smartphone also ships with a high efficiency charger and packaging made from recycled materials and vegetable-based dyes.

FCC to hold administrative hearing on AT&T purchase of T-Mobile

It looks like AT&T will have another roadblock to overcome in its efforts to purchase T-Mobile USA, as the Federal Communications Commission intends to hold an administrative hearing on the proposed buy. Chairman Julius Genachowski expressed his concerns with AT&T's plan when the Justice Department filed its lawsuit aiming to block the merger earlier this year, and now the FCC is doing what it can to make sure the purchase is in the interest of the American public.

Samsung delivers Android 3.2 Honeycomb update to Galaxy Tab 10.1

Last week, Samsung released an update to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that brought along Android 3.2 Honeycomb to the slate. Unfortunately, it also broke a few important functions, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and others on a number of users' tablets. As a result of that, Samsung quickly halted the roll-out of the update to fix the issues. Now, the company claims that it has resolved all of the problems with the upgrade and has started distributing it to users once again. Owners of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 should get a notification on the tablet when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed. It can also be installed from Samsung's Kies desktop app on a PC.

Nokia Lumia 800 sales lower than expected say analysts

Nokia's great smartphone hope, the Windows Phone 7.5-equipped Lumia 800, was released earlier this month to rave critical reviews and much fanfare. However, a new analyst report says that all of the hubbub surrounding the Lumia 800 hasn't resulted in mind-blowing sales numbers, and that Nokia has only sold a relative handful of Lumia 800 smartphones.

Sprint puts Google Nexus S 4G, Samsung Conquer 4G on sale for Black Friday

Sprint is running some specials of its own for the Black Friday shopping frenzy, as it has announced that the Google Nexus S 4G and the Samsung Conquer 4G will be free with a new two-year contract during the weekend after Thanksgiving. The Nexus S 4G will be available in store and online, while the Conquer 4G will be an online-only special. Sprint is also among the retailers slashing the price of the 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook down to $199 for the weekend.

Mirasol display finds a home in Korean e-book reader

Those fancy Mirasol displays by Qualcomm - fancy because they don't require a backlight to display full color images - have been promised for what seems like forever, but Qualcomm has finally landed a deal to bring them to market in a consumer device. The Kyobo Book Center e-reader in South Korea will be the first device to utilize a Mirasol display.

Google recently updated its Search app for the iPad with a new interface and a number of tweaks that make it faster and easier to use. The new app is more effective at taking advantage of the iPad's larger screen real-estate, and it honestly looks better than any search app for Android tablets that Google has yet to produce.

Though we expect the ASUS Transformer Prime to launch with Android 3.2 Honeycomb on board when it ships next month, that doesn't mean that NVIDIA and ASUS aren't hard at work getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich running on the convertible tablet. There have been many devices to hit the market this year that have been pegged as the "Facebook phone," including the HTC Status and Salsa and the INQ Cloud Touch. Apparently, none of these have been the "real" Facebook phone, as All Things D is reporting of a new phone that the social network is planning to release at some point in the future.
